I started my journey as a DJ in high-school, at house parties with turntables. From there, I went to college for broadcasting, and graduated to production and recording studio ownership. My sound design has appeared on releases for some of the biggest names in music, from Jay-Z to Rihanna, Dr. Dre, Maroon 5, Brittney Spears, John Legend and many more. My custom produced music-beds have provided the foundation on reality TV shows for MTV and Bunim-Murray, and I've been a contributing writer for national publications like Disc Jockey News, Pro Mobile DJ and others.
Returning to DJing 10 years ago, I decided to focus on weddings, and have done hundreds since. I know music, and I know weddings.
..."You could tell Kirk is not only an expert, but truly loves what he does. Everyone - and I mean everyone - complimented us on the DJ. We heard "he is the best wedding DJ I've heard" and "you guys picked a great DJ!" time and time again. We highly recommend Select Receptions..."

IN A NUTSHELL
We help engaged couples plan & create unforgettable, personalized wedding day celebrations.
We're confident in saying that there is no substitute for what we do, and there is no second chance to get it right.
All weddings are handled by owner Kirk Rothrum personally, with a staff of talented professionals assisting with planning and producing certain events. We never sub-contract, ever.
Unlike most, we never use a cheesy, cookie-cutter wedding playlist. With Select Receptions, you can expect personalized music selections built upon your own requests on your own online planning portal. We're experts at reading the crowd, and we're famous for packed dance-floors.
Unless you specifically request songs like the YMCA, The Chicken Dance, etc., we automatically place those and similar music in the do-not-play category. Because these are songs that people either LOVE or HATE, I defer to my client's tastes on them.
Your wedding reception should be remembered as FUN, and uniquely you. To bring your vision to life, I'm available for as much planning as is needed. Consult with me personally anytime.
My philosophy on MCing and making announcements at your wedding is summed up in one word: Purpose. If there isn't a specific purpose to inform your guests of something important, we won't be on the microphone interrupting the fun. I believe less is more. You obviously want someone well-spoken and confident for important announcements- but it's my opinion that the role of MC, is to facilitate the moment, then let it breathe. Your guests didn't come to your wedding to see the DJ or MC.
